Episode News

The latest news about the seventh season of Deep Space Nine is on this page. I've tried to get as much as possible, but it's of course limited to what gets out from the set. Please be patient if this page loads slowly.

713 - Field of Fire

  • Official description: Ezri summons the suppressed homicidal memories of a previous Dax incarnation in order to solve a series of murders.

  • Odo and Ezri investigate a murder aboard DS9, and to help solve the crime, Ezri must channel the personality of Joran, the murderous previous host first seen in Equilibrium.

714 - Chimera

  • Official description: A nomadic Changeling asks Odo to leave the space station and join his search for their shapeshifting brethren.

  • In this episode, Odo meets Laas, one of the 100 baby Changelings sent out long ago by the Founders. Laas, in the form of a spacecraft, approaches a runabout carrying Odo and O'Brien and makes his way into the cabin of the runabout through air ducts. He has never met another "metamorph," and distrusts humanoids. Back on the station, Sisko is reluctant to let Laas roam free, but Odo argues that if he were really a Founder, he would be infected with the disease all Founders are apparently fighting. Sisko reluctantly releases Laas into Odo's custody.

Laas has been aware for 200 years, as opposed to Odo remembering only 30 years. Odo demonstrates to Laas how to link and afterwards Laas says Odo is only staying on DS9 because of Kira. Laas says humanoids always disrupt the natural balance and encourages Odo to leave with him, to search for the other non-Founder Changeling. The idea bothers Kira, and Odo eventually declines Laas' offer, suggesting as an alternative that Laas doesn't have to leave immediately. They can still spend time together. Laas points out that Odo isn't really living as a shape-shifter. Odo avoids shape-shifting in front of humanoids, because it calls attention to his differences.

Laas is not concerned about how humanoids react to him. One day he forms himself into fog(!), filling the promenade and distressing people. This leads to an altercation with two Klingons, who hate Changelings, and Laas kills one of them. The Klingon government demands to extradite Laas. Self defense does not seem to be a reasonable defense, because Laas knew he could not be hurt by the Klingons. Quark counsels Odo that it is time of war, and now is not the time for a demonstration of "Changeling pride" on the promenade. Odo gets more and more confused.

Out of love for Odo, Kira releases Laas from his holding cell and sends him to a certain planet. Kira lies to Sisko about how Laas escaped, but in private tells Odo where to find Laas. Odo meets Laas there and again declines to go with him. Laas refuses to link one last time. Odo returns to Kira who tells him she wants to know him as he really is. He dissolves into light and flows around her.

  • An Odo episode that finds him pondering parenthood with Kira. G. Hertzler (not Martok) is the sole guest star of note, playing "Laas", Odo's "changeling brother". Furthermore, Kira makes some great sacrifice on Odo's behalf in the end. A "chimera" is an organism comprised of genetic material from two different species AND "chimera" in Italian means "something unreachable".

715 - Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang

  • Official description: A glitch in Vic Fontaine's holosuite program leads the crew to attempt a daring heist of a mob-run casino.

  • While relaxing in Vic Fontaine's Las Vegas holosuite lounge,O'Brien and Bashir are surprised by the arrival of mobster Frankie Eyes, who announces that he has bought Vic's hotel. After he fires Vic, the crew learns that Frankie was created by Vic's designer. Upset by Frankie's behaviour, and by the knowledge that the lounge's atmosphere will now change, the crew desides it must rid him from the program. But he must be eliminated in a way what is period-specific to Fontaine's era: 1962. The task takes on greater urgency when Vic is beaten up.

716 - Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

  • Official description: Bashir becomes an unwitting pawn in a deadly game between Romulan intelligence forces and a covert Starfleet organization.

  • This will be a MAJOR Section 31 episode involving Bashir (a show continuing the Section 31 storyline from last year's Inquisition). It is revealed that Section 31 is behind the poisoning of the Great Link. Translated from latin, the title means "In time of war, the law falls silent".

717 - Penumbra

  • Official description: While Ezri searches for a missing Worf, Sisko makes plans to marry Kasidy Yates.

  • At the conclusion of the series there will be nine connecting episodes. This will be the first of the nine episodes. Ezri goes in search of Worf when he is declared missing after the Rotorran is ambushed. She finds Worf, but is then captured herself. Facing certain death together, they have a brief encounter. Although Ezri realizes she is also having feelings for another member of the crew. She has to ask herself -- are her feelings for Worf her own or Jadzia's?

Meanwhile, Sisko asks Kassidy to marry him, she says 'yes', but then the Emissary has a vision from the Prophets who forbid the union. An angry Sisko defies the will of the Prophets and is determined to marry Kassidy anyway. Also features Weyoun. Penumbra is the lightest part of a shadow.

718 - 'Til Death Do Us Part [Umbra]

  • Official description: As Sisko agonizes over his broken engagement, Dukat's latest evil plan is revealed.

  • This will be the second of the nine episodes, and this episode deals with Sisko and his relationship with the Prophets. Umbra is the darkest part of a shadow. As Sisko agonizes over his broken engagement, Dukat's latest evil plan is revealed, and it has something to do with the Orb of the Emissary.

  • Ezri finally admits who she really loves - Julian. We will see the early signs of a romance between Ezri and Julian. If you know it's coming, you can see the signs. This is not official as yet, but a path is being cleared. I, personally, suspect that when Ezri and Worf come to terms with each other in "Strange Bedfellows" this will allow Julian to move in.

719 - Strange Bedfellows [Eclipse]

  • Official description: While Worf and Ezri face execution, an alliance between enemies threatens to turn the tide of war against the Federation.

  • This will be the third of the nine episodes, and in this episode we see Weyoun and the female Changeling trying to cure the Founders' disease. Eclipse means a total lack of light. When the latest attempt to cure the Founders' disease fails, the Female Founder orders a mass extermination of the Vorta. This is so that their clones can be activated to bring a "fresh approach" to the problem. The Dominion and the Breen will make an alliance to destroy the Federation.

  • In other news, Kai Winn gets very friendly with the guide from the Prophets, and while the Breen join the Founders War effort, its odd that Thot Gor appears in this episode, but isn't mentioned in the guest star credits. Worf and Ezri are due for execution, but Worf is able to kill Weyoun and Damar aids in their escape, promising his support to the Federation after rejecting the alliance with the Breen. Winn becomes a member of the Pagh'Wraith cult.

720 - The Changing Face of Evil

  • Official description: The war reaches a crucial turning point when the Cardassian leader breaks from the Dominion-Breen alliance.

  • This will be the fourth of the nine episodes. The Defiant is destroyed/damaged severely by a new Breen weapon. Damar declares that Cardassia is under Dominion occupation.

721 - When It Rains...

  • Official description: While Kira consults with Damar's rebel forces, Bashir makes a shocking discovery about the disease that is ravaging the Founders.

  • This will be the fifth of the nine episodes. Odo will begin to show first signs of the Founder's sickness in this episode. His condition will get worse (see info for next episode). Meanwhile, Damar's objection to the signing of the Dominion-Breen treaty (first mentioned in "Strange Bedfellows") forces him to turn to a few DS9 crew members, in an attempt to foil the signing of the treaty which could end up harming Cardassia.

  • It is reported that Sloan of Section 31 caused the disease. There's more intrigue as Odo moves to aid the Founders, as his doubts about his loyalty to the Federation grow. Perhaps Odo's doubts are triggered by the discovery of Section 31's involvement in the creation of the disease.

722 - Tacking Into the Wind

  • Official description: Kira masterminds a plot to obtain an enemy weapon, while Worf investigates a dramatic power shift within the Klingon Empire.

  • This will be the sixth of the nine episodes. This is a Klingon based episode, featuring General Martok AND the return of Gowron. Opposing Gowron's bad decision making, Worf challenges Gowron to a fight to the death... and wins...

  • By now, Odo is really suffering from the Founder's disease. Bashir and O'Brien begin work on finding a cure.

723 - Extreme Measures [Night Tremors]

  • Official description: Bashir and O'Brien link minds with the man who holds the cure to Odo's deadly disease.

  • This will be the seventh of the nine episodes. This is mainly a Bashir/O'Brien episode (the last of the series), which also involves Sloan and Section 31. Section 31 returns after proving that in war, the laws do indeed go silent. Considering that we haven't had a 'torture the Chief' episode yet (not including Prodigal Daughter), the fall of night may prove to be uncomfortable for Miles O'Brien. DS9 Story Editor Bradley Thompson said that "O'Brien and Bashir will have a turn in these last ten. Saw the dailies and it looks wonderful."

  • It is reported that Kira and Garak teach Damar how to found a resistance movement against the Dominion.

724 - The Dogs of War

  • Official description: With the Cardassian Resistance crushed, the Federation war against the Dominion reaches the prelude to one final showdown.

  • This will be the eighth of the nine episodes. An episode where all of our Ferengi friends appear (Quark, Rom, Moogie and Grand Nagus Zek). Leeta will also appear. Rom will become Grand Nagus in this episode. According to rumours Odo dies in the final scene of this episode. The new Defiant arrives (to replace the old one destroyed in "The Changing Face of Evil"). Directed By actor Avery Brooks (Benjamin Sisko).

725/726 - What You Leave Behind [Series Finale]

  • Official description: The war against the Dominion reaches its final confrontation when Sisko leads the Federation Alliance in an attempt to invade the Cardassian homeworld.

  • After seven years, it all comes down to this. Expect the end of the Dominion War; Bajor’s entry into the Federation; The battle for heaven (Prophets vs Pah-wraiths), and last but not least, the fate of the Emissary (Sisko will become a Prophet!).
